Cartier UK Announces Three Year Sponsorship of the Cartier Queen’s Cup 2012

Pukka Chukka: Cartier Polo

Cartier UK has agreed to sponsor the Queen’s Cup for the next the years. Arnaud M. Bamberger, Executive Chairman, Cartier UK said: “After 27 successful years of sponsorship of the International Day format in the UK, we felt it was time to change the formula to one which is more tournament focused. We are honoured to uphold our loyalty to the sport of polo with the Queen's Cup becoming the Cartier Queen’s Cup and therefore allowing us to continue our long-standing relationship with Guards Polo Club.”
The Cartier Queen’s Cup is one of the world’s leading polo tournaments, starring the world’s greatest players. The opportunity to win the Cartier Queen’s Cup is a highlight for the sport’s elite and creates memorable high-goal matches for both players and spectators alike. HM The Queen first presented her cup in 1960 and has seen HRH Prince Philip play in the final and HRH Prince Charles go one better and win the trophy.
The President’s Draw for the Cartier Queen’s Cup will be held on 15th May 2012 at the Cartier New Bond Street boutique. The tournament itself begins later that week and after three weeks of thrilling high-goal polo the leading four teams will head to the semi-finals on 13th June 2012.
This world-leading tournament concludes four days later with a memorable final, historically played in the presence of HM The Queen, on Sunday 17th June 2012 at Guards Polo Club, located in the heart of Windsor Great Park.

Palace Hotel Tokyo Debut Turns a New Page in Japanese Hospitality

Palace Hotel Tokyo, a 290-room heir to some of the city’s most exclusive real estate, opens 17 May in Marunouchi on a stunning, moat-side setting by the Imperial Palace.
Not lost in translation: The new Palace Hotel Tokyo
mixes Japanese and French culture
As the anchor to a USD1.2 billion mixed-use development, the hotel’s 10 new restaurants and bars include Japanese, Chinese and French dining venues with designs on Michelin stars. In a country not otherwise known for its spa culture, the hotel is cutting the ribbon on the first ever evian® SPA in Japan. And its ownership, management and service standards are Japanese through and through.
“There is only one Tokyo, and there will only be one experience like the Palace Hotel,” said Takashi Kobayashi, the company’s president. “From the Aji stones at our entrance to the linens in our guest rooms, from the omotenashi at first encounter to the general management, we’re celebrating an unfiltered appreciation of our country’s culture.”
Its 12 categories of accommodation range from deluxe rooms to suites that extend to 255 square metres. Most of the rooms feature open-style bathrooms with separate soaking tubs and showers, and more than half of the rooms and suites have open terraces and balconies. And for good reason. Every guest room in the house features views of Tokyo’s Imperial Palace gardens as well as the surrounding skyline beyond.
Each room’s decor invokes the hotel’s proximity to Tokyo’s natural splendour, from the leafy carpet motifs to the earthy mix of golds and creams. Nature notwithstanding, the rooms pay homage to modern exigencies with complimentary wireless and wired high-speed Internet access, 46-inch LCD TVs and Blue-ray/DVD/CD players.
Uniquely Japanese touches to the rooms include the 300-thread count Imabari bed linens and bath towels from Ehime prefecture, and Maruyama Nori teas manufactured in Tokyo’s Tsukiji district. The hotel’s published room rates start at £390 and climb to £5,500 for its premium suites.
Palace Hotel Tokyo has 10 restaurants and bars. “Our goal with each of these restaurants is not simply to complement our guests’ accommodation experience,” said Kobayashi “but to create several, new dining icons in this city - a constellation of opportunity, if you will.”

On the hotel’s sixth floor, the original Palace Hotel’s French restaurant, Crown, first opened in 1964, returns as a collaboration with Patrick Henriroux, who has maintained a two-star reputation at La Pyramide in Vienne, France for more than 10 years.
Occupying 1,200 square metres of space on the fifth floor, the hotel’s evian® SPA will be the first ever in Japan – and a future must for wellness in Tokyo. Its five treatment rooms, one spa suite and separate ladies’ and gentlemen’s relaxation lounge form the heart of the city’s most ambitious new spa. Its gentlemen’s spa area features a heated bath, reclining bath, cold plunge and dry sauna, and the ladies spa area includes a heated bath and marble sauna.
The hotel also claims prime frontage on Tokyo’s renowned Marunouchi business district as well as proximity to the Nihonbashi financial centre. Eight multi-purpose rooms comprise the hotel’s meeting facilities in addition to a formal boardroom that seats 28 and two smaller meeting rooms. The signature flourish in the main ballroom is a 7-metre tall by 22-metre wide window overlooking the Wadakura moat and the Imperial Palace gardens.
The new hotel succeeds two previous hotels, the Hotel Teito and Palace Hotel that occupied the same site from 1947 and 1961 respectively. Each was razed to make way for its successor.
Palace Hotel Tokyo is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

It is distilled from seasonally grown Maris Piper, Lady Clair and King Edward potatoes and cut down with the farm’s own water. The finished spirit has a rich, bittersweet flavour and a warm, velvety feel. Williams Gin is distilled from organically grown cider apples, and then re-distilled with eleven carefully selected botanicals to produce a full-bodied, sharp and fruity gin.

Recession Fails To Dent Consumer Lust For Luxury Brands

In the face of continuing economic uncertainty, far from cutting their cloth, consumers are turning their backs on traditional household favourites and lower end products and embracing luxury lifestyle and indulgent brands despite the grim economic outlook, according to Brand Finance’s latest Global 500 study of the world’s top brands.
The Brand Finance® Global 500 report shows how the global downturn has spawned a new breed of recession proof and aspirational “Alphabrands” which we turn to for quality regardless of the economic conditions.  Bucking the trend for consumers to look to lower end products during times of economic uncertainty, our results show that consumers are increasingly eager to indulge in high quality cutting edge design and couture. Some of the world’s top fashion chains have experienced soaring profits with big brands such as Louis Vuitton ($US 4.9 billion), Hermès ($US 3.4 billion) and Polo Ralph Lauren ($US 3.3 billion) increasing their brand value.
2012 has also seen the re-entry of high end fashion houses such as Prada and Coach whilst Christian Dior and Burberry appear as new entrants in the Global 500 tables. Luxury jeweller’s brand Tiffany & Co have also made the Global 500 for the first time ($US2.9 billion) whilst bespoke Swiss watch makers, Cartier, entered the ranking of the top brands with a value of ($US 3.1 billion).
As consumers continue to indulge themselves during the downturn, brands such as Rolls Royce have seen an increase of 17% in brand value to US$3.1 billion whilst both Daimler and BMW have benefitted from this renewed interest in luxury automobiles with brand increases of 20% and 5%.
Further evidence of consumers’ lust for luxury has been seen by the drop in value of high street supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s (now valued at $US 5.8 billion), ASDA ($US9.4 billion) and even Marks and Spencer’s ($US4.5 billion) who have all suffered a difficult year.
The latest tech gadgetry appears also to be a must for today’s consumers.  Technology lifestyle brands also dominate the table, increasing their standings on last year’s table by 79%. 49 technology companies appear in this year’s Global 500 making it the most valuable sector by some margin. Lifestyle technology brand, Apple has leapfrogged Google to be named as the world’s most valuable brand, having the highest ever valuation calculated by Brand Finance at an impressive $US70.6 billion.
David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance, commenting on the tables said: “The rise to prominence of luxury and lifestyle brands in this year’s report is quite impressive. Whilst the world remains shrouded in economic misery, people are investing their hard earned cash in brands they feel they can rely on to produce quality, long lasting products. It is also an encouraging sign for the economy to see that the overall value of the Global 500 increase by 3.3% to $US3,415 billion from last year.”

New men's cufflinks from Faberge

Fabergé has just launched a new collection of jewelled and gold cufflinks, wittily inspired by the celebrated cigarette cases of the historic House of Fabergé.
One to watch: the new collection from Faberge
Living its legacy, Fabergé has created an innovative and contemporary new cufflink collection, bringing its passion for craftsmanship and design into the realm of men’s accessories. With characteristic Fabergé wit and verve, the collection links the historic designs of the many cufflinks, dress-sets and famous cigarette cases created by the House of Fabergé in the early 20th century, with their exquisitely refined yet masculine gold work, ribbed, swirled, textured and coloured, becoming the most elegant and fashionable male accessories of the day.
The designs of the cufflink collection translate classic Fabergé themes into strong contemporary styles: the sunburst motif, in rose gold, enamel or carved stone, the iconic egg shape, in both the cufflink itself, in the form of carved hard stones, and in the smooth gold fittings; rococo, in the round gold links with inset diamond swirls; matelassé, the sumptuous quilted gold of Les Favorites de Fabergé; mother of pearl “framed” in rose gold; and the “cigarette case” cufflinks of rectangular ribbed and gem set gold, a line running around the silhouette to give the impression of opening, and a cabochon sapphire as the “clasp”.
The techniques and materials remain true to Fabergé: stone carving, in rock crystal carved into an egg-shape, set over a slice of lapis or ruby, or the striking deep blue lapis lazuli egg shapes carved with a deep ribbed sunburst design, centred with a blue sapphire, coloured gold, engraved, textured or quilted, and the refinement of superb hand-craftsmanship, gem setting and precious, perfect jewelled details. They are, absolutely Fabergé.
